About the Cards

Ratings are calculated using all of an athlete’s individual races from the current season (which generate the Regular cards for each season), and are weighted using ratings from the previous season.

Races from Junior/Youth World Championships, European Championships, and the IBU Cup are weighted equally to World Cup races.

Special cards for major championships are calculated exclusively from races of the corresponding championship. Other special cards are based on the base ratings and include boosted statistics (for example, “Athlete of the Week” cards rely on performances from the most recent race week).

About the Ratings

Ratings are not intended to reflect an athlete’s absolute performance level or career value. They represent a purely mathematical translation of individual race statistics.

Differences between an athlete’s overall ranking and their average rating may be explained by several factors:

About the Calculations

The ski rating is based on time differences from the median performance (with conversions applied for circuits outside the World Cup). Sprint and endurance ratings rely on average ski times depending on race format.

Shooting speed is calculated from shooting time, while prone and standing ratings are based on accuracy percentages.

There is no human intervention in the rating process — all calculations are fully automated and purely mathematical.

About Athlete Statistics

Some athlete statistics displayed on individual pages may be temporarily outdated. These values depend on data updates from the IBU and our own update processes.
